Elliott Hire

Introduction

Elliott Hire were initially only interested in implementing a vehicle tracking system for their service vehicles when discussions began in April 2004. Having successfully rolled out AMS Fleet Manager to the fleet of 40 vehicles, attention soon diverted to their ever growing fleet of welfare buildings known as the “Evolution” range. Being one of the largest portable buildings companies in the UK, Elliott have always been keen to embrace new technology to enhance and protect their market share, however this complex environment had already proved too challenging for other providers to produce a reliable system.

System Requirements

Essentially Elliott required a form of fleet management “on steroids” to provide detailed information regarding their fleet of buildings out in the field. Mandatory information such as location and security was soon to be proved less important than other factors. Elliott needed visibility and control of the ancillary items in the buildings ie generators, waste and water tanks. The system would need easy to use alerting mechanisms plus a comprehensive but user friendly reporting suite.

Most importantly, the system needed to withstand harsh and remote environments without loss of service.

Key Business Benefits

Since implementation the system has constantly evolved and now provides the following key benefits;

  • At a glance location reports to show fleet utilization and monitor trends

  • Reports on generator usage allow for a fairer method of charging customers and massively reduce maintenance costs

  • Monitoring service intervals on generators allows pre-emptive maintenance thus reducing breakdowns and downtime

  • Water and Waste tank levels can be remotely monitored thus streamlining callouts and associated costs

  • Service to Elliott customers has improved whilst massively reducing costs to both parties

  • Other ancillary services can be provided such as CCTV systems and voice / fax facilities to remote locations

What the future holds

AMS will continue to develop the entire Site Manager range to provide diverse applications for emerging markets. As the devices become smaller, more portable and of course more cost effective, all buildings will soon benefit from this technology.
